Be The Change
Attention to All Nurses, Nursing Students, Healthcare Professionals, and Everyone Everywhere!
My name is Helene Morel, MSN, PMHNP-BC, and I am the Founder and CEO of Nurses Love Their Young, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing mental health services and support for nursing students and newly graduated nurses.
My own journey through trauma and mental health challenges has profoundly shaped my path, guiding me to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner. In this role, I offer therapy and medication management through the Grow Therapy online platform. Additionally, I am honored to serve as a dedicated Mental Health Theory Professor and Clinical Instructor at CNI College School of Nursing, where I support and educate RN students.
My journey began with profound challenges. As a nursing student and single mother, I experienced homelessness and despair, struggling with depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD stemming from childhood trauma growing up in the cult known as The Children of God. I felt isolated, alone, and hopeless, with no one to turn to. It took immense strength and everything in me to peel myself off the floor to keep going. Through the kindness of a friend providing my daughter and me a place to stay, I found the strength and courage to persevere.
These lived experiences fuel my passion and deep commitment to supporting the mental well-being of nursing students and nurses. I endured significant struggles in life, and the compounded stress of nursing school further exacerbated my mental health symptoms. I deeply understand the struggles and isolation that come from suffering in silence without support.
I firmly believe that trauma is the root cause of much pain, and I am inspired by the quote, “Trauma Blocks Love. Love Heals Trauma,” by Dr. Frank Anderson.
Now, as a registered nurse and PMHNP-BC, I am determined to make a difference and refuse to stand by while others face similar hardships. Driven by this passion, I founded "Nurses Love Their Young," a nonprofit organization that supports nursing students’ mental health on their journey to becoming compassionate nurses.
But my commitment doesn’t end there. I am on a mission to revolutionize the nursing profession through compassion, support, and mental health advocacy.
I have witnessed firsthand the toxic culture of “Nurses Eat Their Young” that plagues our profession—a cycle of bullying, harassment, and burnout that must end. That’s why I am calling on all nurses to join the Nurses Love Their Young Initiative and join me in taking the Nurses Love Their Young Pledge.
Together, we can transform and change the culture of nursing and create and foster an environment where every nurse feels valued, respected, and supported. But we can't do it alone. We need your help to provide vital mental health support and resources to nursing students and newly graduated nurses as they navigate the challenges of their nursing careers.
I urge you, fellow nurses, to stand with me in solidarity. Let's show the world that nurses don't eat their young – we love, support, and uplift them every step of the way. Join the Nurses Love Their Young movement today and help us build a brighter future for nursing.
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!
